The BC government’s decision to end wage levelling for fully private long-term care and assisted living homes on December 31, 2025, is deeply concerning—especially for our newly-unionized members at Amica Lions Gate, who rely on these wages to support their families and communities.
Wage levelling was introduced to close the wage gap between private and public sector healthcare workers. It helped stabilize staffing during the pandemic and brought much-needed fairness to the sector. That fairness is now at risk.
SEIU Healthcare BC believes private operators must step up. Employers have a responsibility to maintain current wage levels—not roll them back or delay answers. Workers should not bear the consequences of this government decision.
We’ve already heard from concerned members. We hear you, and we stand with you. We will hold the employer accountable, push for wage protection, and ensure workers are not left behind.
In solidarity,
Krystal Smith
