The deadly car-ramming attack at the Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day festival is an appalling act of hate and violence that has left a community shattered. As a union that proudly celebrates and champions the diversity of our members, including thousands from the Asian Pacific Islander community, we stand in unwavering solidarity and support with everyone affected by this unfathomable loss.
This horrific act targeting innocent festival-goers highlights the deep-seated intolerance that continues to plague our society. Festivals like Lapu Lapu Day are meant to celebrate culture, unity, and heritage—not to be marred by acts of hate and violence.
Today reminds us of the urgent need to stand together against hate, and to demand justice for the victims and their families. We strongly condemn any act that undermines the peace and unity we all deserve.
